Entertainment Information

Willkommen to Family Fun! Visit the Germanic-American Institute (GAI) haus at Oktoberfest! Let the kids try topfschlagen, schilaufen and other activities while you learn about GAI's great classes and programs for your family.

Check out these Hot Dogs! Join Dachshunds Making a Difference (DMAD) in Oktoberfest's inaugural Dachshund Dash! These wonderful wieners will race their way into your heart as they dash through our specially-designed course. They'll be belly-bumpin' over soft hurdles and strutting their stuff in costume. Races start at 1:00PM Saturday.

Hammer-Schlagen ("Striking Hammer") is a game derived from its predecessor Nailspielen ("Nail Game" or "Playing With Nails"). Both versions are essentially the same. A large cross section of a tree is used and nails are placed around its circumference. Each player gets his or her own nail and one swing at a time to drive the nail. A hammer is passed from one player to the next, using only the narrow end of the tool. Players swing at their nail until the nail is countersunk into the wood.

Hammer-Schlagen Tournament Bragging rights start here! Four ‘Schlagers’ or competitors per bracket/match and there will be a total of four brackets (16 total competitors). Entry into the tournament is FREE and we will accept the first 16 people to sign-up for each day’s tournament.

Friday’s four matches will all begin at 6:00PM and Saturday’s start at 3:00PM. You may sign-up for the tournament by e-mailing now to madson@sropro.com, please indicate your name and which day you’d like to compete. All matches will take approx. 15-20 minutes. The following Rounds will begin about 15 minutes after the match preceding it (i.e. Round 1 - 6:00PM, Round 2 – 6:15PM, etc.) First place winners receive $25 cash and Oktoberfest prizes! Matches will be officiated by event management and all decisions are final.

Barrel Rolling The tradition of barrel rolling dates back to the original Oktoberfest in 1810. Race around an oval course as you roll an oak barrel, trying to avoid crashing into your opponent.

Wiener Eating Contest Are you the Oktoberfest Wiener Meister?! Contestants will have one minute to down as many wieners as they can. Contests will be held, Friday @ 4:45PM and Saturday @ 12:15PM and 6:45PM. To compete, pre-register by emailing name, your contest time choices (1st and 2nd choice) to madson@sropro.com. If space is available, you may register on-site at the t-shirt booth during the event. First place winners receive $25 cash and Oktoberfest prizes! Matches will be officiated by event management and all decisions are final.

Learn to Polka! Let's Dance Tonight teachers will be demonstrating and teaching basic polka dancing for free! Visit the Let's Dance Tonight booth at the festival for more information.

Oktoberfest is presented by Minneapolis Riverfront Arts & Events and SRO Productions. A portion of proceeds from the event benefit the St. Paul Jaycees. Parking, directions and additional event details can be found at www.minneapolisoktoberfest.com and www.stanthonymain.com.
